Richard Venables, a retired detective inspector, has helped to identify thousands of bodies around the world after tsunamis, transport accidents and other disasters, so that victims could be returned to their families. In this memoir he tells how death became central to his personal as well as his professional life, and how he coped with the greatest challenge of his career: the Asian tsunami of 2004, which claimed 230,000 lives.
