What is this book about?
Age of Ambition chronicles the lives of people Evan Osnos came to know while living in China from 2005 to 2013. Drawing partly on his reporting for The New Yorker, it describes his travels and his interviews with people caught up in economic, political and social change. The title refers to a new sense of individual aspiration, a belief that a life can be remade. Some of his subjects are prominent, such as the artist Ai Weiwei and the economist Justin Yifu Lin; others include a teacher, a street sweeper and an auctioneer imprisoned for bribing judges.
