Mockingbird

Ten-year-old Caitlin Smith has Asperger’s syndrome and is absorbed by drawing and dictionaries. Her older brother, Devon, has just been killed in a school shooting, along with a teacher and another pupil. Caitlin sees things in black and white and finds it hard to cope with her feelings about what has happened.

Her classmates think her strange and keep their distance. When her counsellor arranges for her to spend break times with younger children, she meets Michael, a boy who is grieving for his mother.
