Seven Empty Houses

Seven Empty Houses is a collection of seven stories, each centred on a house that is empty in some way: of love, of life, of furniture, of people, of memories or of the truth. In every one, something finds its way back in, whether a ghost, a quarrel, trespassers, a list of things to do before dying, or a child’s first sight of a parent’s fallibility. The characters are caught up in the dysfunction of their homes and families. The English translation is by Megan McDowell.
