What is this book about?
On 3 March 1952 a meteorite strikes the East Coast of the United States, killing most of the government. Elma York, a mathematician and former wartime pilot, survives with her husband, Nathaniel, a scientist. Elma calculates that the climate change set off by the impact will make Earth uninhabitable within decades.
When the couple present their findings to the new president, the United Nations and the United States agree to begin a programme to colonise space. The Calculating Stars is the first book in the Lady Astronaut series.
