Annette, ein Heldinnenepos

Written in the form of an epic, Anne Weber’s book is based on the life of Anne Beaumanoir, a French doctor born in 1923. Annette, as she is called here, grows up in a working-class family in Brittany and joins the Resistance as a medical student. She starts by carrying messages, wants to do more, and tries to hide a Jewish family threatened with deportation.

After the war she marries, has children and practises medicine. When the Algerian War begins she is recruited by the National Liberation Front and goes underground once more.
