Chanson douce

The novel opens with the killing of two small children by their nanny, Louise, and the mother’s discovery of the crime. The rest of the book goes back to tell the story that led to it: a Parisian couple grow attached to a nanny who seems kind but behaves a little strangely. The novel is concerned with motherhood, and its title refers to a lullaby. It is loosely based on a real case in New York in 2012.
