Otome no Mikkoku

At a university of foreign languages in Kyoto, the eccentric Professor Bachmann sets his students a passage from The Diary of Anne Frank to learn by heart for a German speech contest. Mikako is one of the ’maidens’, as he calls them, whom he has divided into two groups. She admires Reiko, the gifted leader of the other group.

Then a rumour spreads that Reiko has done something improper with the professor, and she is pushed out. The novel sets the question of who informed on her alongside Anne Frank’s own story.
