The Goldfinch

Thirteen-year-old Theodore Decker survives an attack at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, but his mother is killed. In the aftermath, he comes into possession of The Goldfinch, a painting by Carel Fabritius. Donna Tartt’s novel follows the changes that this event brings to his life.

The painting provides both the book’s title and a central element of its premise. Published in 2013, The Goldfinch won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
