The Rediscovery of America: Native Peoples and the Unmaking of U.S. History

The historian Ned Blackhawk sets out the central role of Native Americans in the formation and development of the United States, a role he argues has been minimised or overlooked in the prevailing account of American history. The book runs from the first arrival of European settlers in North America to the present day. It covers the violent displacement of Native peoples from coastal lands in the colonial period, and the trade in goods such as furs and firearms that sharpened conflict between tribes over hunting territory.
