What is this book about?
The Tiger’s Wife is set in an unnamed Balkan country and spans the mid-20th century to the early 21st. It centres on a young doctor’s relationship with her grandfather and the stories he tells her. One concerns the ‘deathless man’, whom he meets several times in different places and who does not die whatever danger he faces; another, a deaf-mute girl from his childhood village who befriends a tiger that has escaped from a nearby zoo. It is Téa Obreht’s debut novel, published in 2011.
