There Is No Place for Us follows five families in Atlanta who lose their homes even though the adults hold full-time jobs or are studying. Among them are a hospital cleaner, a social work student and a warehouse worker undergoing cancer treatment. Brian Goldstone uses their stories to examine the rise of the “working homeless” in booming American cities, where rising rents, low wages and weak tenant protections push employed people out of housing. He argues that these hidden homeless are missing from official statistics and that the crisis comes from a thriving economy rather than a failing one.
