What I Saw and How I Lied

This young adult novel is set in the United States just after the Second World War. A few weeks before fifteen-year-old Evie Spooner is due back at school, her stepfather, Joe, recently home from the war, takes Evie and her mother, Beverly, from their home in Queens, New York, on a trip to Palm Beach, Florida. They arrive in the off-season to find only one hotel open, and there they make the acquaintance of the Graysons, a married couple from New York City.
