Shinsekai

Sumito, who wants to be an actor and idolises Ken Takakura and Bruce Lee, joins a drama school known as ‘the Valley’, run by a scriptwriter. Its students spend two years living a largely self-sufficient life, doing farm work while they learn acting and scriptwriting. Sumito collapses in the fields, is praised and scolded by the teacher, and writes about it all to a female friend back home, whose own life moves on without him.
