Au revoir là-haut

At the end of the First World War two former French soldiers find that society has no place for them. Édouard Péricourt is the artistically gifted son of a wealthy family, rejected by his father; Albert Maillard is a modest bookkeeper. Their bond dates from the last days of the war, when Albert discovers that an ambitious lieutenant, Henri d’Aulnay-Pradelle, killed two of his own scouts so that he could blame the Germans and launch a final attack in the hope of promotion.
