Spin

The story opens when Tyler Dupree is twelve. One night he and his friends, the twins Jason and Diane Lawton, see all the stars disappear at once. A membrane has been placed around Earth, slowing time so that about 100 million years pass outside for every year within.

Because the Sun is ageing so much faster, life on Earth has only a few decades left. Jason becomes a scientist obsessed with the membrane, Diane joins a religious movement and Tyler becomes a doctor. Spin is the first book of a trilogy.
